Designation of Lead Inspector General for Operation Freedom’s Sentinel


Michael E. Horowitz, Chairman of the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE), announced today that the Honorable Jon T. Rymer, Inspector General of the Department of Defense, has been named the Lead Inspector General for the overseas contingency operation known as Operation Freedom’s Sentinel, the purposes of which are to work with U.S. allies and partners as part of NATO’s Resolute Support mission to continue training, advising, and assisting Afghan security forces; and to continue the counterterrorism mission against the remnants of Al-Qaeda. Operation Freedom’s Sentinel commenced on January 1, 2015, by order of the Secretary of Defense. Lead Inspector General Rymer will work in close coordination with the Inspector General of the Department of State and the U.S. Agency for Global Media, and the Acting Deputy Inspector General of the U.S. Agency for International Development to provide appropriate oversight. He will also cooperate and closely coordinate his oversight mission as Lead Inspector General with the oversight mission of the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction.
