Notification of 1-Year Extension to OIG’s Current Strategic Plan
The purpose of this memorandum is to notify the U.S. Department of State, U.S. Agency for Global Media, and U.S. International Boundary and Water Commission that I, in my capacity as the Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Inspector General, approved a 1-year extension to OIG’s current strategic plan. This decision will extend OIG’s current strategic plan through the end of FY 2023. A copy of this notification will be made available on OIG’s public website at www.stateoig.gov.
OIG’s current strategic plan, which covers FYs 2019 – 2022, is the product of a deliberate and inclusive strategic planning process. Accordingly, OIG’s strategic plan continues to reflect OIG’s broad oversight priorities, as well as our commitment to improving internal operations and the quality of the oversight we conduct. Based, in part, on consultations with my senior leadership team, I decided to extend OIG’s current strategic plan through the end of FY 2023. The current strategic plan provides sufficient flexibility to consider the updated strategic priorities of the organizations for which we are charged with conducting oversight. Extending the current plan also preserves decision-making authority for a future, Presidentially appointed, Senate-confirmed inspector general. OIG intends to undertake a full strategic planning process in FY 2023, with the goal of producing a revised strategic plan that will be implemented beginning in FY 2024.
Should you have any questions about my decision to extend OIG’s strategic plan or OIG’s strategic planning and performance management practices, please contact myself or OIG’s Director of Enterprise Risk Management.
